About the Role
We are seeking a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join our growing public accounting firm in Newark, NJ. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working directly with business owners and individuals while providing audit, accounting, tax, and advisory services across a diverse client base.
Our clients span multiple industries including real estate, construction, nonprofit organizations, professional services, import/export, manufacturing, and closely held businesses.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Perform audit, review, and compilation engagements for private companies and nonprofit organizations.
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and nonprofit entities.
- Research complex accounting and tax issues and provide practical recommendations.
- Advise clients on tax planning, financial reporting, internal controls, and business operations.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding financial statements, tax matters, and compliance requirements.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of junior accountants and staff.
- Assist with client onboarding, budgeting, cash flow analysis, and financial forecasting.
- Maintain compliance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and firm quality control policies.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service and proactive communication.
Qualifications
Required
- Active CPA license (Required – candidates without an active CPA license will not be considered).
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- 5+ years of public accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and federal and state tax regulations.
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and tax returns.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and common tax/accounting software.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience with real estate, construction, nonprofit, manufacturing, or international businesses.
- Experience leading audits and supervising staff.
- Knowledge of multi-state taxation.
- Experience with CCH, Thomson Reuters, UltraTax, ProSystem fx, or similar software.
